Department of Japanese Language and Literature
The Department of Japanese Language and Literature places emphasis on integrity in instructions to refine students’ competence in Japanese language and provide an interdisciplinary understanding of Japanese culture. Students will have the opportunity to meticulously seek a holistic understanding of Japan, foster their global outlook and develop their unique professional expertise.
The curriculum is designed so that the first two years provide introductory language courses which are then built upon by one of the following academic tracks: (1) language, literature, and culture (2) business practices (3) social sciences, Juniors and seniors can choose their major concentration in any of the three tracks according to their interest. Each course is arranged based upon up-to-date academic requirements and employment requirements for the job market. Upon graduation, students find many open doors to either continued education at the graduate level or entrance into a wide range of fulfilling careers. Elective courses in the program include for example, “Guidelines on Japanese Materials in Taiwan” or “Research on Japanese Materials in Taiwan” guides students to connect Japan student Japan study with Taiwan study.
In order to nurture our students with the highest level of Japanese language instruction, the department’s lies in the following directions: 1. Augment the faculty by hiring distinguished scholars and experts. 2. Purchase Japanese books and periodicals and expand classroom facilities for high quality teaching. 3. Participate in academic activities associated with Japanese language & literature and increase interaction with other university’s Japanese department. 4. Hold regular conferences and symposiums and publish journals in the name of the department. 5. Assist students to study for the program of teacher education to increase future qualification as a high school Japanese faculty. 6. Strengthen international cooperative relationships with sister institutions and launch programs in teaching Mandarin to Japanese students abroad.
